SBW Installation Instructions for Multi-User Environments

This document gives step by step instructions for installing the Systems Biology Workbench on Multi-User Environments.

Prerequisites

SBW relies on the following Frameworks that should be installed prior to SBW.

1. The .NET Framework 1.1, as available from: http://tinyurl.com/54ore

2. The .NET Framework 2.0 as available from: http://tinyurl.com/758p8

3. If the SBW Python bindings are to be used, Python needs to be available on the machine:http://python.org/ftp/python/2.4.4/python-2.4.4.msi

4. The SBW Python bindings also rely on a third party package for numeric support. This package can be downloaded from: http://tinyurl.com/2pwl9l

5. If the Java bindings are to be used, we also require a Java Runtime on the system: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

6. if the Matlab bindings are to be used, be sure to install Matlab first, and then the Matlab SBW bindings from: Matlab Binding Libraries

Preparing the machines

In order to make the multi-user environment work, SBW requires the following environment variables to be set:

SBW_USER

This environment variable should point to a folder, writable by all accounts using SBW. The rights should inherit to subfolders, allow to read, write, create and modify files. This folder should exist prior to installation.

Installing SBW

The latest version of SBW can be obtained from:

http://sys-bio.org/fbergman/files/latest/SetupSBW.exe

For bifurcation analysis please also install the bifurcation discovery tool:

http://sys-bio.org/fbergman/files/latest/SetupBIF.exe

and:

The installation creates a registry key, under the local branch. For multi user environments this key should reside in the machine branch however. Thus, please open the registry editor: regedit

· Navigate to the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Systems Biology Workbench

· Export this key into a file, say SBW.reg

· Open SBW.reg in a text editor, and replace HKEY_CURRENT_USER by HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

· Save your changes and run the file to have the entries mirrored.
